Baby Room Decorating
This has to be one of the most exciting projects for new parents to start.
Some parents start baby room decorating right away as soon as they receive the news, while others choose to wait.
Regardless, the anticipation that surrounds the arrival of the new baby is high and the excitement grows everyday.
Decorating your new baby’s room takes some planning.
Your baby as well as yourself will be spending countless (and sleepless) hours in this room.
So choosing a theme that is both inviting and calm is very important.
Although color is in the forefront of all new parents minds when looking at baby room themes, color is not really that important for newborns.
Newborns cannot see color right away, it is only until their eyes develop and adjust that they can see and distinguish colors.
Warm Colors Promote Tranquility
It is true that warm colors promote calmness and tranquility.
Warm greens, soft blues, cream yellows are all nice colors to paint the baby’s room.
If you are not sure which colors are warm and which colors are cool, check your local home improvement store for paint palettes that show complementary color combinations and ideas for painting a new baby room.
Tips For Choosing Baby Room Curtains
What is the big deal with the curtains for baby room? Some parents think that the curtain is not important. That is why they focus more on the crib, flooring design and changing table. If you skip the curtain, the nursery will never look complete. The curtain is not only installed for decorative purpose …read more
A favorite color combination to paint a room when the sex of the baby is unknown is a warm green (light green), white, and light grey (ceiling).
Warm green is a neutral and pleasant color that will please both you and baby.
After your baby is born, you will be spending lots of time in this room so paint it a color that you will enjoy too!
Stencil the Ceiling
As the baby gets older, he will begin to “spot” objects and shapes.
Help his brain develop quicker by stenciling the ceiling with black and white geometrical shapes.
If you are far along in your pregnancy though, please leave this stenciling work to your husband or another family member.
Painting or stenciling the shapes above the baby’s crib will help his mind to develop faster by encouraging his curious mind to “wonder” what those shapes mean.
Easy On the Linens
Most new parents feel the need to run out and buy the cutest matching comforter sets for the crib.
This is not necessary.
Most babies are fine with just a small blanket over their lower half while they sleep through the night.
Using a heavy baby comforter or even a heavy blanket is not recommended.
It can be dangerous if the baby is left unattended with a medium to heavy blanket on them.
So stick to the light blankets for warmth through the night.
Decorating is a big step when it comes to the baby room.
It signified the confirmation of a new member of the family, of a new beginning for your life.
Make it count.
Make the room memorable and one that is fit for your heir.
Baby Furniture Decor
Outfitting your baby’s room with baby furniture is not just a matter of putting in some hand-me-downs and throwing up an old, rickety crib.
Instead, picking and placing the right baby furniture needs to be done with a few simple but important things in mind.
First, for cribs, whether it’s a hand-me-down, a brand new one straight off the list of luxury baby items, make sure all the screws, nails and connection pieces are securely fastened and not sticking out.
You may also want to consider cribs with storage.

It seems simple enough, but many people fail to check, and their child ends up getting nicked or scratched or even poked with an errant screw.
Double-checking the screws and fastening on your baby furniture will also make sure it doesn’t fall apart and, if done on a regular basis, will prolong its life.
Make sure the mattress crib is a good fit in the crib itself.
Even a small amount of space between the side rails or the headboard can offer a means for your child to slip down between the mattress.
Avoid putting pillows, blankets and even stuffed animals in the crib.
These can cause suffocation, choking or other unfortunate events that could harm your baby.
Hanging toys, such as mobiles and stuffed animals are preferred, and will keep your baby occupied and lying on his or her back.
Make sure to place a crib away from curtains and drapes or anything that may fall into the crib.
Also, check to make sure the crib is not placed too close (or too far) from heating ducts and air conditioning units.
Maintaining the proper temperature will keep your baby healthy.
Some other items of baby furniture you need to consider are:
A baby tub: This is a small, usually plastic tub that can be easily moved and placed next to a sink or inside an existing bathtub.
It is not advised to use your regular bathtub to wash and bath your baby in the early stages, so getting a baby tub is a necessity in the first few months.

The tubs are inexpensive and can be found at any department store or baby supply store.
When washing, make sure to place the tub on a flat, non-slip surface.
Playpens are a great place to put the baby and let him or her enjoy them self in a relatively safe and contained area.
They usually have mesh, so make sure that there are no holes or tears in which the baby could crawl through or get stuck.
Follow the same general rules for crib maintenance for a playpen.
While there are differing types of high chairs for baby furniture, there is one general rule that will prevent the majority of injuries caused in high chairs each year: strap them in.
Make sure any high chair you purchase comes with a strap to secure the baby into the chair.
Most accidents happen when the baby is not securely fastened or not fastened in at all.
The baby will squirm, and eventually slip and slide out of the high chair.
Often, they will hit their head on the table or fall onto the floor.
Generally, commercially produced baby furniture must live up to several rules and regulations established by government agencies for safety standards.
Make sure the baby furniture you purchase adheres to these guidelines when your adding items to your baby room.
